Blog Post #1

Computers are an important part of the education experience because there are standards that provides a roadmap for how educators should teach and skills students will need to perform in the 21st Century. The critical concerns of teachers and students using computers is many schools lack economic resources although funds are spent on technology it is insufficient to ensure students and teachers will have what they need to maximize learning. Another challenge facing teachers is integrating technology through planning and managing. Teachers also have to be aware of social media through using time management skills. Students challenges are understanding the different learning styles of children who made not care for technology as well as others.

The ISTE standard that gladdens my heart is standard one “Facility and Inspire student learning and creativity”. I believe it is important to allow students to be creative in their school work because it is more engaging. I love the idea of collaborating with other students with feedback of their work. I am not fond of standard five “Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership” simply because I would hate having to attend meeting and workshops discussing topics that I would probably already know. However, I would do it because I would want my students to receive the best education they can from me.

A digital native is a person who was born after digital technology. It is a category for children who are exposed to technology in the early years. I have seen the difference between myself (digital native) and my teachers (digital immigrants) use of technology. My older teachers rely used smart boards or projectors to teach concepts because they did not know how to use them. I believe if my teacher had used technology I would have understood the content better. The difference I anticipate between my students and I would be simply the advancement of technology. I might not be up to date with my technological skills as my students so it could be some discourse there but overall I hope that I could give them the best possible education.

  1. I find that your opinion of the digital native is interesting! I believe that teachers often struggle with technology, so I agree with you!

  2. Hey Cahassidi! I do think we do have sufficient money to buy certain technologies but not enough to maintain updated technology that classroom should have.

    1. Maintenance is actually the biggest factor. Good observation Some schools go 1-to-1, and while they can buy equipment for each student to use, maintenance is cost-prohibitive. As a result, many schools are exploring BYOD (bring your own device), but so many platforms make it tough for students and teachers alike.

  3. I love the ISTE standard that you loved, as well. Children need creative outlets to just be kids!
