Blog Post #8

The Dynavision D2 system allows athletes to train their perceptual vision. It allows athletes to improve their peripheral awareness and process multiple tasks more efficiently and rapidly. I believe that the Dynavison D2 can be used to help students who have ADHD. It would allow students to reads books that are prompted on the screen while touching the lit buttons to increase comprehension. It could be used as a fun game for students. As a math teacher, you could have mathematic problems on the screen that students must answer while trying to touch the buttons that are lit up.

I will use PowerPoint to support student learning at each level of Bloom’s Taxonomy.  The first level of the Bloom’s Taxonomy is “Remember” PowerPoint can help students remember but teachers can have slides with definitions of words that are important to the topic. The second level is “understand” PowerPoints can provide notes to help the student comprehend the topic. The third level is “apply” it could help students to use information in new situations.  Teachers can create demonstrate different scenarios to help students comprehend the topic.
The fourth level is “analyze” to draw connection among ideas. Teachers can create comparison charts for students to understand what to topics have in common. The fifth level is to “evaluate” to justify a stand or decision. Teachers can make PowerPoints into a fun game where students can have a debate on a topic to increase comprehension and public speaking.
The sixth level is to “create” to produce new or original l work. As teacher you can make your PowerPoint presentation as creative as you like. You could use music, pictures, graphs, different fonts and many more to appeal to your liking.

#7 I

According to the podcast, Adaptive or Assistive Technology is defined as technologies that help people with disabilities more effectively use computing equipment. They can be used to support learners. For example, if you are blind you would be able to use the voice recognizer.  I have to Siri which is a voice recognizer to send a message for me because i was driving. Challenges for the classroom would include if we have the funding to have these equipment on hand.

The new skills i acquired from learning how to use weebly to make a website. I learned how i could insert pictures and hyperlink them. I learned some amazing things about US government. I learned how i could embed my google calendar to go on my website. I found that to be interesting because i did not know that i could do that. What i did not like about weebly was i have to contact support services in order to have my page created. I did not enjoy how i had to pay for a membership for some of the features. Overall, i had fun creating my own web page.

This new skills i learned from working with diigo included knowing how to effectively sort different sources by the hashtag. This can be useful in the classroom because it would allow me to be organized with my sources by having them in one place. Diigo would help me as a student by allowing me and others to swap information or tips on our teaching skills. Since i would like to become a principal diigo would be perfect with I'm discussing strategies, i would like the my teachers to use.

ILP Participation Lynda

My learning experience using Lynda allowed me to get help regarding classroom management through a list of videos that demonstrated the Fundamental Do's and Don't's of effective classroom management. I learned important information about how i should speak to my students, manage classroom rules, maximize classroom time and even redirect my students. Using Lynda was amazing. The site was easy to navigate and i enjoyed the structured layout. I was able to watch videos and follow along with a transcript just in case i did not understand what the video was saying. It also had this cool tool that allowed me to take notes as the video was playing so i could later go back and review all the information i learned, which was beneficial because i did not have to take notes on paper. Lynda also allowed me to asses my knowledge of Classroom Management with a quiz of eight questions. After i completed the course i received a cute certificate that i am able to share on my social media pages so everyone will know i understand Classroom Management.

The information I see publically on Darnel Cookman Middle/High School am Ms.Fiser’s AP Biology and Case Studies were different tabs depending on the class. The front page has a a link for the students to take notes on. On the tab with 16-17 case studies it has a list of what the students will be doing for each day they attend the class. The AP Biology link has a miscellaneous page with a safety agreement, Resources for investigation and Labs and the Power points of the 3 units that will be covered throughout the year.

I envision myself using technology to accomplish my professional responsibilities by knowing how to do mail merge to keep my student’s parents inform on important things they will need to know. I will also use Desktop publishing because According to Chapter 7, it will let me have a format for flyers, forms, invitations and newsletters that I could use to present information in a different way other than a Power point. Electronic spreadsheet also will benefit me because it will allow me to store data in an organized manner. It could also make calculations easier. Database management will benefit me in terms of Queries which can assists students in practicing logical and critical thinking skills.

The smart board was in the tech sandbox. The smart board can be used as a interactive tool in the class room because the smart board is touchscreen teachers can run different educational programs on it. It is relatively easy to each and it can take the place of the basic whiteboards in most classrooms. It can used for notes taking, you can even allow your students to play games on it on it and you could even examine 3-d figures. For example, if I was a science teacher and was discussing the components of a cell, I could actually give my students a 3-d picture of each component and a location of it.

I believe the web 2.0 technologies are useful in the classroom are blogs, which allow teachers to have control and monitor students. It could allow the teacher to be able to post reminders and updates from students to see. Wiki's allows student to collaborate with other students on projects while engaging them to build relationships with others. Depending on the grade level twitter can be useful in the class by providing a networking based for students to follow authors, public figures and to be able to talk to a direct source according to the podcast. I believe diigo can be used to support teacher professional development because it would allow the teacher the ability to keep her sources organized. Twitter also can be used for teacher professional development because it allows teachers to connect with other and exchange ideas.

A web 2.0 tool that I find interesting is Library Thing. It is a social media web application. The website allows you to catalog your books online. It Is free for the first 200 titles but after that you have to option to upgrade your membership. It tracks books, music, movies that website gives you access to the Library of Congress, the six national amazon sites and different libraries worldwide. I would use Library Thing to save any sources that I would like to students or colleagues to see because the website allows me to save sources by tags that would make it easy to use compared to other websites.

The biggest technological advancement in Chapter 12 that holds the biggest promise for education is Gesture-based multi-touch display. Most kids have smartphones that use gesture computing. Combining multi-touch technology with education offers a new level of human computer interaction. This can be extremely beneficial to students who are kinesthetic learners. It would also allow students to solve real world problems with a pinch or a swipe. This could also engage students more than just hearing lectures or taking notes. Since I would like to teach social science According to Chapter 12, this would give me the opportunity to make It possible to manipulate the real world in ways that were previously only conceptualized.

Blog #4

I used twitter to connect with friends from school. I saw twitter as “the next big next” so I started using it. However, in EME 2040 I use it as an educational platform. I am able to connect with different educator from around the world who share the same interests as me. One particular twitter user posts that interests me is White House Af-Am Ed- (@AfAmEducation) mainly because they have amazing quotes relating to education and life. Twitter will be helpful in my future career because it can give me the opportunity to network with other educators while allowing me to adopt different methods to reach my students that have been beneficial for other educators.

The digital divide a split between the students who have access to technology and those who don’t. The digital divide affects student’s success because some students don’t have the resources to complete assignments at home. Some students might have access to computer but the computers could be out dated. If a teacher requires internet access the student will not be able to complete the assignment and will probably receive a low grade. Teachers might require the student be able to use Microsoft Office but some students might not have the funds to buy Microsoft office.  From my own experience my teachers would eliminate the digital divide by not assigning take home projects because of our school funding, they would reserve our computer labs so we could complete assignments as a class.

According to the podcast, when evaluating websites, you can use ABCDT. A is for the author. Is it a creditable source? Can you contact the author if you have any questions or concerns? B is for bias. You should think about if website have a bias toward something or is it neutral? C is for content. Is the information accurate? Is the information current? Are there spelling errors? Is it appropriate for my students? D is for design. Are there pictures? Are there creative things on the website? T is for Technical elements. Is the site essay to nagavtiagete? You should also check to see how stable the website is. Look to see if it is crediable through other sites. The podcast and my personal thoughts are similar. I mainly focus on whether the author is a creditable source to use. ABCDT is important because you should want to give your students the best information you can and by doing that you should make sure you evaluate each website you chose to incorporate in your lesson plans.
